Bride SocksAnother weekday wedding! Tonight’s Wednesday wedding was held over at The Thursday Club in Point Loma. As guests arrived they were greeted outside by an enormous pink flamingo and a spring fairy. One of the most unique and cool things I have seen! You almost don’t really know what to say… The weather has been crazy the last few days so we had to make a decision to pull the ceremony inside at the last minute. The Thursday Club has an excellent outdoor space for ceremonies but the indoor space we used still has a view that nobody can deny! We were lucky enough to have some nice pockets of weather so they could sneak outside for photos. A few unique items included the custom made poker chips (since the groom likes poker) with each person’s name placed on the dinner plate to designate their seat, as well as, the fact that our bride actually wore her grandmother’s wedding dress! The style fit our bride & groom’s personality perfectly. I made a special announcement about her dress after the toasts and it was a nice personal moment between our bride and her grandmother. I used eight orange uplights that really added color to the white walls and highlighted some of the architecture on the stage. The little flower girls learned a dance before the wedding so they decided to get out there with all the other bridesmaids and perform! Dancing went really well tonight (especially for a Wednesday night). They kept it going until the end when our bride and groom exited to a tunnel of sparklers. A fun way to send them off.

Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines Wedding CakeI knew this was going to be a good one… The Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines is a beautiful location for a wedding. The ceremony was held outside in front of the golf course at the bottom of an enormous staircase. Guests then transitioned to the  cocktail hour located on the outdoor patio space complete with lounge furniture, bar, and cigar roller. I set up a wireless speaker to transmit the music and announcements to this outdoor space so guests could stay connected to everything happening inside. The Fairway Pavilion ballroom for the reception looked amazing. One of my favorites to date. A few noticeable details: The tables looked modern yet warm with square plates, textured linens, and Manzanita branch centerpieces that had orchids and hanging candles. Amber colored uplights surrounded the perimeter of the room to add warmth to the walls. The cake was spotlighted and featured the same pattern as the linens. Four lounge areas (one located in each corner of the ballroom) created relaxing social areas for guests. A photo booth was available for guest’s to pile in and capture fun moments throughout the evening. The couples monogram was projected down onto the dance floor to add a personal touch. I was hired for tonight’s wedding to provide lighting, act as their wedding MC, as well as, their San Diego wedding DJ. The group consisted of mostly an older crowd so I mixed things up early on in the evening by playing more swing, oldies, motown, etc. than normal to make sure they were happy. As the evening went on I switched gears a little bit and played more current dance music. The older crowd thinned out after about 10pm but there was a core group of dancers that stayed until 11:30. Even though the group was much smaller this was actually the best part of the night for me. They enjoyed dancing to a large variety of music styles and really were focused on having a great time! The excellent team of vendors really made sure the night ran flawlessly.

Omni San Diego Wedding CakeAnother amazing wedding down at the Omni! Tonight’s wedding was for one of the sales managers that works at the Omni so there were a lot of important people in attendance including the VP of the Omni along with many of the Omni’s upper management. This wedding had a lot of extra special touches. First off the centerpieces looked amazing in the room. They were extremely vibrant which really created a dramatic effect set against the black chair covers. Lounge furniture surrounded the dance floor which creates a cool relaxed atmosphere. We projected the couple’s slide show up on a large screen after dinner. Just outside the ballroom there was another lounge area where guests could step away from the dance floor and relax while viewing another video slide show on a LCD flat screen. I provided the San Diego wedding DJ services and also helped illuminate the room with a few extra items. 16 uplights were used around the ballroom (set to a nice amber color), a custom monogram initial was projected down onto the dance floor, and the cake was spotlighted to really make it stand out when the lights were dimmed, as well as, making sure it was visible from across the room. We had a crowd of about 225 guests tonight and I estimate about 200 of them were out on the dance floor. We were scheduled to end at 11pm but everyone was having a great time so we extended until 12 midnight. Another great wedding reception!

Bali Hai Wedding Blue DressTonight we were over at the newly remodeled Bali Hai for a great wedding. The new remodel looks great and really updates the look and feel of the location. It makes the room seem twice as large as it used to. The ceremony was held off to the side of the restaurant facing the San Diego bay and the downtown skyline. A few interesting and fun elements to this wedding included: the groom walking into the ceremony to an instrumental version of the song: “The Final Countdown” which got a laugh out of quite a few people, the bride wore a very unique grey-ish blue wedding dress that really stood out from the “norm”, the groom does custom tile and stone work so the groom’s cake had blue waves made out of small square sugar tiles like a mosaic, root beer floats were served for dessert, the couple is really into tandem bicycles so they had their old-school tandem outside on display and I projected a custom image of a tandem bicycle down onto the dance floor, for some unknown reason a group of younger guests changed into disco style clothes during open dancing and surprised everyone on the dance floor with their stylish moves, the bride’s father is a technical genius so he put together a full on photo booth with props and backdrop. Each guest was able to take home printed photo booth style photos from the evening. The uplights around the room added some color to the walls and went well with the bride’s bouquet.

San Diego Wedding CakeI was back at the Omni tonight for an amazing San Diego wedding! They really went all out for this one. The entire ballroom space was used with around 225 guests. I provided my usual San Diego wedding DJ and MC services, as well as, lots of extra enhancements to finish the room off. I used 12 uplights throughout to add some color to the tan walls. I spotlighted the cake (you can see before and after pictures below and a few at a distance to let you see how the cake really stands out from across the room) and projected a custom monogram gobo image down onto the dance floor to add a personal touch. The tables looked amazing with branch centerpieces that were highlighted with orchids, hanging candles, and draped with crystals. The couple made their entrance into the ballroom and then went into their first dance to “You Got Me” by Colbie Caillat. After dinner I helped provide the projection equipment for their slide show. Once we kicked things off dancing went extremely well! They had a blast from start to finish. We ended up going about 15 minutes past the ending time since they kept wanting more… Guests then headed downstairs and lit sparklers outside for the bride & groom’s exit.

Another great seven hour wedding down at the Omni Hotel San Diego tonight! We started off with the ceremony on the outdoor Palm Terrace at 5:00pm which is tented for the winter to keep out the cold. Guests moved down to the foyer for cocktail hour from 5:30 until 7:00pm. The ballroom doors opened and we kicked things off with their first dance followed by a few nice toasts. I provided a second microphone for a translator since the bride’s family was from Brazil and her dad only spoke Portuguese. Dinner was then served from 7:30pm until about 9:00pm. The rest of the evening was open for dancing and fun. After about 30-45 minutes of dancing we completed a few last events which included the cake cutting and bouquet toss. At about 10:00pm the bride and groom broke out with a large box of Brazilian Carnival themed party favors that included hats, glasses, and feather boas. I am usually not a big fan of these sort of “props” but this was done in a really fun way and the guests actually loved it. I don’t think it hurt that I played some Brazilian music to enhance the effect. We closed out the night with some great dance music and ended with their last dance at 11:30pm. They demanded “one more song” so I played one last Brazilian song to really close it out. This was a really fun carefree group.

I was over at the Town & Country Resort for a Sunday wedding today. I provided sound for the outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour. We then moved inside the ballroom for the reception. It was funny because they also had an ice sculpture which you don’t see at every wedding (last night’s wedding had an ice sculpture martini luge). I added some colored lighting to the ice sculpture which really made it stand out from across the room. Dancing was fairly consistent throughout the evening considering it was a Sunday night wedding. The lighting looked amazing in the room and really enhanced the atmosphere. It can really hide certain elements and bring out items you want to highlight. Tonight was a perfect example of that. I provided a custom monogram that was projected down onto the dance floor and 7 uplights around the room.

The Marriott Downtown San Diego was the venue for tonight’s wedding. The Seaview Room is a unique room with many options for lighting! Tonight we had many uplights throughout the space. Three custom monogram projections were projected onto the walls. We had their names above the dance floor and then two other patterned images on the side walls to add some interest. Dancing went well for the entire evening and guests had a good time. We used the water effect lighting above the dance floor during open dancing for color and movement. A fun element was the ice martini luge where guests could select their custom flavored martini before it was chilled going down the ice luge. They also had a chocolate fountain with an assortment of fruits, brownies, rice krispies, and snacks to dip.

The Menu tonight looked amazing:

Tonight I was up at the California Center For The Arts in Escondido. In the past 15 years I can’t remember DJing a wedding or event there. It is always refreshing to visit a new location. We started with cocktail hour outside on the patio where I provided a small cocktail portable music system. It was hot out so guests were ready to make there way inside once we opened up the ballroom doors. The cocktail hour and reception were a total of 7 hours on a Sunday night so I didn’t think guests would make it until the end.It did fade out around 10pm but people stayed until the end. I played a lot of country tonight (bride & groom’s requests) which is very different from most weddings. They enjoyed it and I think everyone had a good time. The uplighting I provided really put some needed color on the all white walls. The space would have felt really empty without them. We also use the white “starry” lights during their first dance only. They wanted to add a little something different to make it stand out.
