Another Memorial Day weekend wedding! Tonight’s wedding was held on a Sunday evening at the Omni San Diego Hotel downtown with an excellent group of vendors. Kelly our coordinator really helped keep things on track.

Tonight’s couple decided to have a “Fire & Ice” theme. They hired me to perform as their San Diego wedding DJ but they also opted to hire me to take care of all of their lighting needs for the event. The cake spotlighting really helped the cake to stand out and make an impression from across the room! One unique wedding item was their wedding cake topper. They had a custom etched piece of glass (with their names and date) that was lit by blue led lights which tied into all of the other lighting in the room.

As you can see in the photos we contrasted all of the candles and orange / red flower centerpieces with deep blue uplighting (which also helped to hide the wall behind). We really pulled off this theme well!

The ceremony started off outside on the Palm Terrace followed by a cocktail hour in the large foyer overlooking Petco Park and the city. After our couple’s entrance they went into a custom first dance song that I mixed for them which combined a few parts of a slow song and a section of a fast song.

Once we opened up the dance floor guest’s were ready to party. We had quite a bit of time (2.5 – 3 hours) for dancing which is much longer than most. They stayed until the end and our couple exited just before midnight. I played an extra 15 minutes of music since there were a number of guests that wanted the party to continue. All in all a nice wedding!

Tonight was a large 225 person Filipino wedding in downtown San Diego at the Omni Hotel. The referral trail is long on this one… First off this couple hired me to be their San Diego wedding DJ based on a referral from a wedding that the bride & groom attended in 2008. That wedding was a referral from a wedding I DJ’d back in August of 2001 at the US Grant. The 2001 wedding was a referral from a previous wedding that is no longer in my computer system which means it was sometime back in 1995 to 1999. It always amazes me to look back at how each couple finds me. I just sent an indirect “Thank You” to the 2001 couple.

The cocktail hour tonight was held just outside the ballroom. Once we opened the ballroom doors guests made their way to their seats to find a nice bottle of sake wrapped up as their wedding favor. We started off the evening with the huge grand entrance of 42 people! I put in some time practicing to make sure I pronounced all the unique names correctly. After our couple entered we went directly into their first dance. Toasts were held after the meal (with sake service) and were followed by the father/daughter, as well as, the mother/son dances. We kicked off dancing and the dance floor was full. After about 20-30 minutes guests were naturally wanting a break so we slowed things down and showed the couples slide show which the NR3 videographers added footage from the ceremony and reception filmed just minutes earlier. We then went into the money dance which is a well-loved tradition at Filipino weddings which represents the wish that good fortune is “rained” upon them. We finished off the events with the cake cutting and the bouquet/garter toss. The rest of the evening was open for dancing. I played a large variety of music including all the major dance hits, some Cha-Cha, and a few songs from Lea Salonga (see below). Dancing went well for the rest of the evening. The lighting helped add some color to the walls and bring more purple into the room. I also projected a custom gobo monogram image down onto the dance floor that added a personal feel to the space.

Lea Salonga is a great singer and actress in the Philippines. She has appeared in “Miss Saigon” on Broadway, as well as, the voice of Princess Jasmine in Disney’s Aladdin. It was Filipino Cultural Night at Petco Park and Lea sang the National Anthem during the Padres game (the groom works for the Padres and helped line this up). In the photo to the left you can see Lea Salonga with our couple.

Another amazing wedding down at the Omni! Tonight’s wedding was for one of the sales managers that works at the Omni so there were a lot of important people in attendance including the VP of the Omni along with many of the Omni’s upper management. This wedding had a lot of extra special touches. First off the centerpieces looked amazing in the room. They were extremely vibrant which really created a dramatic effect set against the black chair covers. Lounge furniture surrounded the dance floor which creates a cool relaxed atmosphere. We projected the couple’s slide show up on a large screen after dinner. Just outside the ballroom there was another lounge area where guests could step away from the dance floor and relax while viewing another video slide show on a LCD flat screen. I provided the San Diego wedding DJ services and also helped illuminate the room with a few extra items. 16 uplights were used around the ballroom (set to a nice amber color), a custom monogram initial was projected down onto the dance floor, and the cake was spotlighted to really make it stand out when the lights were dimmed, as well as, making sure it was visible from across the room. We had a crowd of about 225 guests tonight and I estimate about 200 of them were out on the dance floor. We were scheduled to end at 11pm but everyone was having a great time so we extended until 12 midnight. Another great wedding reception!

I was back at the Omni tonight for an amazing San Diego wedding! They really went all out for this one. The entire ballroom space was used with around 225 guests. I provided my usual San Diego wedding DJ and MC services, as well as, lots of extra enhancements to finish the room off. I used 12 uplights throughout to add some color to the tan walls. I spotlighted the cake (you can see before and after pictures below and a few at a distance to let you see how the cake really stands out from across the room) and projected a custom monogram gobo image down onto the dance floor to add a personal touch. The tables looked amazing with branch centerpieces that were highlighted with orchids, hanging candles, and draped with crystals. The couple made their entrance into the ballroom and then went into their first dance to “You Got Me” by Colbie Caillat. After dinner I helped provide the projection equipment for their slide show. Once we kicked things off dancing went extremely well! They had a blast from start to finish. We ended up going about 15 minutes past the ending time since they kept wanting more… Guests then headed downstairs and lit sparklers outside for the bride & groom’s exit.

Another great seven hour wedding down at the Omni Hotel San Diego tonight! We started off with the ceremony on the outdoor Palm Terrace at 5:00pm which is tented for the winter to keep out the cold. Guests moved down to the foyer for cocktail hour from 5:30 until 7:00pm. The ballroom doors opened and we kicked things off with their first dance followed by a few nice toasts. I provided a second microphone for a translator since the bride’s family was from Brazil and her dad only spoke Portuguese. Dinner was then served from 7:30pm until about 9:00pm. The rest of the evening was open for dancing and fun. After about 30-45 minutes of dancing we completed a few last events which included the cake cutting and bouquet toss. At about 10:00pm the bride and groom broke out with a large box of Brazilian Carnival themed party favors that included hats, glasses, and feather boas. I am usually not a big fan of these sort of “props” but this was done in a really fun way and the guests actually loved it. I don’t think it hurt that I played some Brazilian music to enhance the effect. We closed out the night with some great dance music and ended with their last dance at 11:30pm. They demanded “one more song” so I played one last Brazilian song to really close it out. This was a really fun carefree group.
