One of my last weddings of 2011 was at Estancia and now I am grateful to start off 2012 with the first wedding of the year at this great La Jolla wedding venue as well! The ceremony was held at a different location so our couple hired me as their La Jolla wedding DJ for the reception only. Cocktail hour kicked off just outside the ballroom on the patio. During this time guests were “signing” the tree guestbook with a signature & a thumbprint. I think our couple will enjoy this unique wedding idea much more than a book with a few signatures which typically gets tucked away in a closet.
Once guests entered the Grande Ballroom they were treated to lots of warm lighting. I provided amber uplighting throughout the room and over by the cake. I also used some atmospheric lighting up on the ceiling to create some interest. This all really made a huge difference in the look & feel of the ballroom. After dinner I was able to project the couple’s slide show up onto the wall with about a 15 foot image size. It looked really clean without having to use a screen.
After the meal & slide show we invited our couple out for their first dance. We started off dancing with a few slow songs which all of the couples enjoyed. We then moved into some “please all” type music to get dancing going. Guests were easing into party mode a little slower this evening. After the cake cutting & bouquet / garter toss they were ready to dance. The photo booth opened up and the party was underway…
Our couple wanted to keep a classy atmosphere but still wanted to add a little color & movement later on so once the formalities were done I switched the atmospheric lighting over to change colors. It gave it more of a party feeling without all the blinking and flashing lights. This was a perfect lighting option to add that interest. The crowd finished strong and we actually played about 30 minutes past our planned ending time.

Bahia San Diego Wedding DJ 8/20/11
Today I headed over to the Bahia Resort to provide San Diego wedding DJ services that included ceremony sound support and lots of lighting! The ceremony was held out at the gazebo overlooking the pond with about 150 guests. The bride and groom wanted instrumental songs from the Beatles playing as people arrived. We then started off the ceremony with another Beatles song and a few readings by family members. Once the ceremony was over guests then headed up to the top of the tower into the Mission Ballroom.
At the entry into the reception we were greeted by a nicely displayed table with a large centerpiece and all of the table name cards. This reception venue has great views of Mission Bay and the Sea World fireworks. The room was decorated with lots of shades of purple which seems to be the hot color this year.
I provided 12 uplights in the room along with the cake spotlighting. In the photos below you can see how the lighting comes to life as the sun goes down. Adds quite a bit of color and drama to the room. You can also see the cake spotlighting really start to make a difference at a distance. Once it was dark we were able to show a nice slide show video highlighting our couple growing up and then their relationship together.
We planned the cake cutting to take place exactly at the same time as the Sea World fireworks are going off in the background. I am looking forward to seeing some professional photos of this if they were able to capture our couple, the cake cutting, and the fireworks all at the same time.
Once we started dancing guests were ready to get up and have some fun. We had a fun photo booth over in the corner that really picked up once the party got going! Overall a very nice crowd and a great group of vendors. It always makes our work easier when we have a good team that can work together to get the job done.

The Scripps Forum is one of the best modern inside and outside La Jolla wedding venues in San Diego. The view isn’t too bad either… We started off with the ceremony out on the grass facing the ocean. At the end of the ceremony our couple released two white doves as a symbol of love since the white dove chooses one mate for life.
Guests moved to the side patio for cocktail hour. The clear acrylic tables were illuminated by uplights and were a small taste of what was waiting for them inside. We were all treated to one of the best sunsets San Diego can offer!
Our couple is truly into electronic music and nightlife. Each table was named a different nightclub they have been to in the past. They primarily hired me as their San Diego wedding DJ but I also walked them through some excellent options for lighting that quickly caught their attention. They had clear acrylic tables inside that were also illuminated with blue uplights. We then placed purple uplights around the perimeter. This provided enough light so we didn’t have to use any of the ceiling lights. The whole room gave off a warm glow and really set the tone for the rest of the evening.
Lighting can make such a difference in a space! The fun and personal slide show looked great on the large screen above their sweetheart table.
Dinner was amazing as you can see from the photo below. After the meal we moved into dancing. I projected their custom monogram gobo down onto the dance floor which looked great during their first dance.
After 30 to 45 minutes of dancing we cut the cake and tossed the bouquet and garter.
As I mentioned our couple and all of their friends are really into electronic music. We planned on playing progressive house and electro for the last hour. Their friends were waiting for this all night to say the least… The bride and groom broke out about 200 glow sticks and we turned the volume up!
The night would not have been complete without a formal glow stick sendoff. No bubbles or sparklers here! A truly perfect wedding.

Rancho Bernardo Inn has many different locations for your San Diego wedding ceremony. Tonight’s ceremony was held over on the Valencia Lawn. There is a fountain well located near the ceremony and our couple put a box of pennies on it with a note to make a special wish for our newlyweds. The sports and football themed reception was held in the San Bernardo Ballroom. The groom’s cake was a fun football field with the couple running from the “Single” side to the “Married” side of the field. The uplighting really warmed up the room and the gobo monogram projection on the wall above the couple’s sweetheart table added some interest. You can see the before and after photos below. After the cake cutting we showed a nice 8 minute photo slide show of our bride’s mother that passed away a short time ago. It was a nice way to celebrate her life and have her be a special part of our couple’s wedding. Dancing went really well tonight. We had a little bit of a late start but they really ate it up. We were scheduled to end at 12 midnight but the bride ran up to me and wanted to extend until 1 am. At about 12:15 the staff told the bride and groom that the event had to end at 12 midnight so we closed the evening out with their last dance. Overall a great wedding!

Marina Village 7/31/10 – San Diego Wedding DJ
The last wedding for this weekend was over at Marina Village in the Seaside Room for around 250 guests. The ceremony was held out on the South Lawn facing the marina and sunset. They released butterflies at the end of the ceremony which is always a nice surprise for guests. We then moved into the Seaside Room for the reception. This is probably the best looking reception I have seen in this room. They really added quite a few special touches to enhance the space and dress up the room. A few of these items included the candy bar, cigar roller outside on the patio, table linens, and the lighting I provided. I spotlighted the cake and projected their monogram gobo down onto the dance floor. This really popped out once we turned the lights down. I also helped provide the slide show that we played during the cocktail hour and mixed a special dance for the bride and her father consisting of six songs. They had fun with it and it was a total surprise for mom since they kept it a secret. The group enjoyed dancing and it turned out to be a really fun wedding to DJ.

Pala Mesa Resort Wedding 7/9/10
Pala Mesa Resort has an excellent outdoor tent space they use for weddings complete with waterfall behind the cake and head table. Cocktail hour is held just outside the tent on a nice patio area. They have a grass lawn area (with another waterfall) available for the ceremony but tonight I was only hired to help with the reception. This wedding was a referral from another San Diego wedding I did in 2005 so it is always great to bump into past clients. The reception tent looked very light and fresh with mostly summer whites and a little bit of yellow/pink. I projected the couple’s slide show during the end of cocktail hour and the start of dinner. This worked out well because we did not have to “stop” the reception later on to show it. Guests were also moving around at this point in the evening so they could view the show and then make their way to their seats. I looped it a few times to make sure everybody got a chance to see it. One unique idea for the name place cards they used was the butterfly cutouts with each person’s name on it that looked like they landed on the water glass. Dancing went pretty well tonight. The couple enjoys going to Irish pubs so we played some Irish music and it really got everyone up right after the cake cutting. A variety of requests throughout the entire event kept it interesting. It was great working with Kendra. She does an excellent job making sure all the details are taken care of, as well as, making sure the couple is relaxed and stress free.

Rancho Bernardo Inn Wedding 6/13/10
A nice summer ceremony out on the Aragon lawn for 225 people. One of the most unique things I have seen at a ceremony happened today. As the groom walked in all of the guests started to clap. The guests continued to clap as each bridesmaid walked down the aisle. They clapped for each person as they walked down including the bride! Having done over 1000 weddings I have never seen this happen. It made for a lighthearted and fun ceremony. Guests then moved into the Aragon ballroom for cocktail hour and reception. After dinner we showed a nice video up on the large screen. The cake spotlighting really made a difference tonight in the large ballroom. Take a look at the before and after pictures below but the photo that stands out is the dark room shot where the spotlighting allows the cake to pop out from a far distance across the room. Dancing went extremely well tonight for a late Sunday night wedding (ending at 11:00pm).

Bali Hai Wedding 4/3/10
Tonight we were over at the newly remodeled Bali Hai for a great wedding. The new remodel looks great and really updates the look and feel of the location. It makes the room seem twice as large as it used to. The ceremony was held off to the side of the restaurant facing the San Diego bay and the downtown skyline. A few interesting and fun elements to this wedding included: the groom walking into the ceremony to an instrumental version of the song: “The Final Countdown” which got a laugh out of quite a few people, the bride wore a very unique grey-ish blue wedding dress that really stood out from the “norm”, the groom does custom tile and stone work so the groom’s cake had blue waves made out of small square sugar tiles like a mosaic, root beer floats were served for dessert, the couple is really into tandem bicycles so they had their old-school tandem outside on display and I projected a custom image of a tandem bicycle down onto the dance floor, for some unknown reason a group of younger guests changed into disco style clothes during open dancing and surprised everyone on the dance floor with their stylish moves, the bride’s father is a technical genius so he put together a full on photo booth with props and backdrop. Each guest was able to take home printed photo booth style photos from the evening. The uplights around the room added some color to the walls and went well with the bride’s bouquet.
Extras Provided: 8 uplights, custom monogram projection, disco ball

Admiral Baker Clubhouse Wedding 3/21/10
This evening’s wedding was held at the Admiral Baker Clubhouse and golf course. I started off with providing the ceremony music and microphones outside on the patio. After the ceremony guests moved to the other end of the patio for the cocktail hour with a great view of the golf course. Once inside the ballroom I projected a slide show that they created. It was a nice way to start off the reception. I then announced our newly married couple into the room. They went to their sweetheart table and I invited their best man and maid of honor up to start off the toasts. After the meal dancing began with their first dance to: “Bless The Broken Road” – Rascal Flatts. We cut the cake after about 45 minutes of solid dancing. They had one of the most unique cake knife and server sets I have seen yet. It was an organic shaped set by Nambé and can be seen in the picture below. Tonight was another amazing night on the dance floor. Sometimes a Sunday night wedding will not have the same type of party atmosphere as a Saturday night wedding. This definitely was not the case with this group. They kept it going until 10pm ending time. They had a blast singing along with the last dance song our couple picked out: “Bohemian Rhapsody” – Queen. It was one of the best “last dances” I’ve seen at a wedding.

Museum Of Contemporary Art La Jolla Wedding 10/10/09
The Museum of Contemporary Art La Jolla is always one of my favorite places to work at mainly because it is an interesting space and I have always been into modern art (not to mention the lighting possibilities!) We had the ceremony outside on the patio with my favorite Minister Jerry Bryant this evening. Cocktail hour was held downstairs in the Coast Room. Guests then moved upstairs for the reception where Guiseppe Catering was busy with three excellent food stations. It was perfect timing because it was just getting dark and all the uplighting that I had done in the room was beginning to come to life. Look at the before and after pictures below to really get a great idea of what lighting can do for any reception space! They had a cool lounge area back by the artwork that Haydee from Concepts Event Design provided. John from Aquario Studio Photography documented the evening on film. I am interested to get some of his photos of the lighting in the room since my small camera doesn’t really do these photos justice. Organic Elements did some minimal floral centerpieces that fit well in the modern space. We kicked off dancing with a slightly older music set to make sure all of the family members and family friends were happy. Once we cut the cake a little later we kicked things into high gear. I played more current music and mostly club remixes for the rest of the night. They seemed conservative early on in the evening but got pretty wild the last hour. Excellent well rounded wedding.
Extras Provided: 19 custom colored uplights, slide show projection equipment
